Despite early hiccups Apple's latest OS X release was downloaded more than 3 million times during its first 4 days of availability. The $20 upgrade brings a host of new features to compatible Macs including Airplay Mirroring, Game Center, system-wide sharing, and beefed-up iCloud integration, which now syncs iWork documents, notes, and reminders.
While Apple doesn't speculate the reason for the huge download numbers, several factors likely led to the quick adoption rate. First, Apple priced OS X 10.8 to move. At only $20, the new operating system is a rather good bargain even if it doesn't boast a lot of new features. Apple also made upgrading to Mountain Lion rather easy, which also likely led to more users jumping onto the system.Latest Blog Entries

Kickstarter: Meet The Vers 1Q, A Stunning 2-inch Battery-Powered Bluetooth Speaker
Posted On 28 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
I'm in absolute love. From the gorgeous wood cabinet to the technical capabilities, the little Vers' 1Q is simply perfect. The $120 price ($99 for Kickstarters) is just icing on the cake. It's rather refreshing to see a warm, nearly alive device in our world that's generally filled with modeled plastic and faux chrome trim.
Simply put, the 1Q is a battery-powered Bluetooth speaker. A 2-inch driver provides the audio while, packed inside the walnut or bamboo casing, a 6.5W amp powers the audio provided from either Bluetooth or the 3.5mm jack. The included battery charges via microUSB and should last 10 hours on a charge. What more can you ask for from a small speaker? No Comments
The Tombox Is A Beautiful Retro Speaker Stuffed With Modern Conveniences
Posted On 27 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
It can be argued that today's modern electronics lack the soul found in older devices. There was a time that a radio felt nearly alive thanks to its glowing inner tubes and wooden casing. But now, with printed circuit boards and mass produced plastic casings, electronics feel dead, disposable and down right stiff.
Tombox speakers are a bit different. Using repurposed vintage electronics, these speakers combine the warm feeling of older electronics with features of a modern kit -- think steampunk without the gaudy nonsense. No Comments
OnLive To Ship On The OUYA Android Gaming Device
Posted On 27 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
The OUYA could change the gaming scene. The low price Android gaming set-top box has the makings of something great. But as the old saying goes, content is king and without killer titles, the OUYA will have a hard time attracting consumers and developers alike. Enter OnLive.
The two companies took to the interwebs this morning to announce OnLive will ship with OUYA. This means the little Android device will have access to first-run traditional gaming titles at launch. OnLive's library currently includes Assassins Creed Revelations, L.A. Noire, The Darkness II and a ton more. Having access to this deep library will likely give the OUYA's creators a bit more time to court Android devs to make exclusive titles for their new gaming device. No Comments
Chinese Case Maker Reveals Potential iPhone 5 Design
Posted On 27 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
The iPhone 5 is coming. The latest rumors peg September 21 as its release date. But even though Apple has yet to announce the phone, there are already countless, as in, hundreds and hundreds, of cases available for the model. It was just a matter of time until one of those case makers filled in the blanks by inserting a logical prototype into one of their cases.
Now, the device shown here is likely not a real-life, completely working iPhone 5. Even if it is a real thing, it doesn't matter since Apple already revealed most of iOS 6's goodies. Case makers are given specific specifications, and from there, they design cases to properly fit the device. The hundreds of cases available tell a story of a taller iPhone like the one in the pictures here.No Comments
Behold, Early iPhone and iPad Prototypes
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
The iPhone's design is iconic but the final version looked rather different from early designs. With sleek but simple lines, the iPhone set the bar for smartphone design. This bar was set so high that most agree that the iPhone undeniably influenced other phones -- a thought that Samsung is currently fighting against. However, as revealed by court documents, the iPhone we all know finally hit the market after several generations of wild concepts. No Comments
Google Revamps Its Search Results Page, Moves Search Tools And Categories Below The Search Field
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
Google is going vertical. In the latest revision of its search page, Google moved the search tools from the sidebar to several drop down menus under the search field. This is just the latest of several notable changes to Google's core function that also included adding a fully functional scientific calculator to the search page and enabling a handwriting mode in mobile search.
This new version is slowly rolling out to users. TechCrunch was first tipped about the layout this morning and I just spied it on my computer a few minutes ago. I'm honestly torn over the new design. No Comments
Introducing The Croon Audio Original, A Gorgeous Bluetooth Table Top Speaker
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
When it comes to quality table top wireless speaker systems, Android and Windows Phones are generally ignored. Makers tend to prefer building accessories for the iPhone, and with that, often support Airplay over DLNA or even Bluetooth.
Enter the Croon Audio Original. This $199 tablet top speaker utilizes Bluetooth connectivity for near-universal compatibility. This gorgeous speaker should work with everything from an Android phone to a Windows notebook to a Palm Treo.No Comments
Google Talk Is Down: Worldwide Outage Since 6:50 AM EDT (It’s Back Up For Some)
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
It's not just you. GTalk is down worldwide. Google first recognized the issue and started investigating at 6:40 AM EDT. While Google Talk appears to be up at first glance, calls and messages fail to complete, likely leaving internet users feeling alone, adrift in a sea of information without anyone around to share a laugh over a cat GIF.
Since the service crashed, Google has provided hourly updates via the Google Talk Service Details page. The latest one, posted at 8:50 AM EDT, does not provide an estimated time when Google expects the service to be restored. No Comments
The Droid X360 Is The Standard-Bearer For Counterfeit Chinese Products
Posted On 25 Jul 2012 By Matt Burns. Under: Uncategorized.
Follow me here. The Droid X360 has the mind of Android, a body of a Vita, and branding of Verizon's Android phones and Microsoft's gaming system. Plus, the thing ships with 9 different emulators, allowing the owner to play games from Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, Game boy Color, NES/FC, SNES, SEGA Mega Drive and SEGA Game Gear. The only way it could infringe on more trademarks would be if there was a Mercedes-Benz logo on the backside. No Comments
