The Weather Channel has been working hard to improve its mobile experience, with a new iPad app, a revamped iPhone app, and now a brand new Windows Phone app for Lumia devices. The WP app for Lumia will have features exclusive to Lumia owners for the next three to six months, at which point the same features will be ported over to the old Windows Phone app, available to all.
Along with support for seven languages, the app will offer improved alert functionality and a new augmented reality feature. The Augmented reality feature allows you to check out the weather through your camera using photos submitted by users in your area. So, for example, if you pointed your phone's camera at the Empire State Building, and someone had just posted a photo of it in the rain, your screen would show that user's photo and the accompanying weather in your display.Latest Blog Entries

Leaked iPhone 5 Images And Video Seem To Confirm Everything We Expect
Posted On 30 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
It's expected that the next-gen iPhone will launch in September, which means that Apple has approximately two more months to keep the specs, design, and availability a mystery. But that seems to be proving difficult, as a brand new video has just hit the web courtesy of Macotakara.
It shows a longer iPhone housing with the same two-tone finish that we saw on 9to5Mac's leaked images.
There is also an obviously smaller mini-port not unlike the 19-pin mini connector we've confirmed here at TechCrunch, and a new speaker grill down at the bottom. No Comments
Fly Or Die: Google Nexus 7

Ever since I/O and the unveiling of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the blogosphere has been measuring Google's new Nexus 7 tablet. The verdict in almost every case is good, including our very own iPad lover's take.
John and I thus found it only fitting to bring the little 7-inch tablet into the studio for Fly or Die. The tablet, with a 7-inch IPS 1280x800 display, a Tegra 3 quad-core processor, and the latest version of Android, didn't fail to impress. No Comments
Nokia Confirms Close Of Last Finnish Handset Factory: 780 Job Cuts To Follow
Posted On 27 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
Nokia today confirmed the close of its last Finnish handset factory in Salo, Finland. No longer can the once-king of mobile proudly claim the words "Made in Finland." The factory's final phone was assembled on Wednesday.
This isn't unexpected — Nokia informed us in June that it had plans to cut 3,700 jobs in Finland as a cost-cutting measure. And the firm went even farther, stating the overall goal is cut 10,000 jobs globally.
In Salo, 780 people will lose their job this year, but Nokia has plans to keep a research facility there. No Comments
This Vision Of The Future Includes Eyeball-Embedded AR, Hackable Humans, And Gamified Everything
Posted On 27 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
It's impossible to predict the future, but the idea that our technology will soon collide with our biological sense of vision continues to pop up in the world. Minority Report is the best fictional example, while Google Glass is obviously the closest real-world iteration of this type of collision to date.
But a new video (below) posted by Sight Systems takes a stab at how this marriage of sight with technology could manifest itself in the coming years (or perhaps decades).
The video depicts some kind of system in which the technology itself is embedded in your eyeball, meaning that tons of apps lead you through your day without any extra hardware at all. You see the main character, Patrick, work out on his floor, watch TV (on an entirely blank wall), get dressed using some type of virtual closet app, and use the Wingman app to help him through a date.
As with any large shift in technology, this type of lifestyle will have its pros and its cons.No Comments
Ahead Of Olympics, Samsung Supports Team Great Britain With Union Jack Galaxy S III
Posted On 27 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
Just in time for the 2012 London Olympics, Samsung, one of the games' official partners, has released a Union Jack-bearing Olympics-edition Galaxy S III, a little something special for Londoners enjoying one of the oldest and most revered sporting traditions on the planet.
Unfortunately for everyone who isn't on the Queen's team, the phone doesn't actually support the Olympic games as much as it does the hosting country, Great Britain. It comes with a limited edition Union Jack back casing on the same blue background we've come to admire on the GSIII. The idea is that Brits can wave their phone during the game to show support.
The phone will officially be made available at Carphone Warehouse on August 1, with prices starting at £28 per month. No Comments
Samsung’s Q2 2012 Earnings: Smartphone Business Propels $41.5B In Revenues, $5.9B In Profits
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
Samsung has just reported its Q2 2012 earnings, and it would seem that the Korean electronics giant is still the king of mobile, with an operating profit of $5.9 billion for the period, up 79 percent year over year.
Of course, the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note have plenty to do with that, considering Samsung predicted it would sell 10 million Galaxy S III units by July. And that's just what it did.No Comments
The Hunt For Red September: A Robotic Submarine Simulator Game
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
This is brilliant.
A team at Red Bull Creation (which has the worst possible website ever) has built a submarine simulation game called "The Hunt For Red September," under the theme of "A Game Of Games." The team, 1.21 Jigawatts, just so happens to be the winner of last year's Red Bull Creation for "Energy In Motion."
The game employs 3 Arduino micro-controllers that simulate the attack of a submarine, which is built to the scale and likeness of a real submarine. There are various levers and valves that the user must trigger to repair different threats to the submarine, such as a high pressure hull rupture, radiation levels, reactor temperature, or a depth charge. No Comments
City Chatter Looks To Compete With Highlight, Sonar By Pairing Group Chat With Social Discovery
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
Yet another mobile social local app has entered the fray to compete with the likes of Highlight and the rest, and it's called City Chatter. The app is meant to be the "antisocial" network, according to the email pitch we received, though I'm not quite sure how that could be the case as one of the main features is group chat among those in your vicinity.
It's actually rather Sonar-like, as users can check out profiles of those nearby before saying anything. You can then enter a public group chat for the area (like the cafe or park you're hanging out in), or enter into a private chat with someone nearby. No Comments
Report: Rich People Prefer iThings
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By Jordan Crook. Under: Uncategorized.
Remember that one time MG compared the iPhone 4S to a Mercedes and the Galaxy Nexus to a Honda and the Internet exploded? Well, it would seem that the division of classes (with regards to gadgetry) wasn't too far off.
According to a report by Spectrem Group (which specializes in retirement and especially affluent markets), people with more money prefer iThings. For example, among users with a net worth exceeding $100K, the iPhone and iPad have the greatest market share, at 46 percent and 53 percent respectively. Android comes in second within this group, with a 34 percent share in phones and a 16 percent share going to the Kindle Fire.
And the wealthier they get, the more they heart Apple. No Comments
