Daisey Cutter: The Ultimate Apple Fanboy, Mike Daisey, Is Back With A Slightly More Realistic Show
Posted On 30 Jul 2012 By John Biggs. Under: Uncategorized.
Mike Daisey, noted fabulist, is back at his original theatre in DC, The Woolly Mammoth where he is holding encore presentations of his debunked - and now slightly rewritten - show about working conditions at Foxconn. Gone are the guards with guns, the fake crippled man who touched the totemic iPad, and the real/fake translator named Cathy. Daisey replaced those stock characters with a bit of self deprecating humor and, as far as I can tell, a few, clearer facts. No Comments
Real Life Japanese Mech Robot Fires BBs With A Smile
Posted On 30 Jul 2012 By John Biggs. Under: Uncategorized.
The Kuratas Mecha robot is an art/aspirational nerd project by Suidobashi Heavy Industry. This full-sized Mech robot features a ride-in cockpit, "rocket" launchers, and a "smile controlled" BB Gatling gun. That's right: when you smile, this thing unleashes thousands of tiny plastic BBs.
Unveiled at Wonder Fest 2012 in Tokyo, you can control the robot with either a set of master-slave joysticks or using a more fluid Kinect interface. It runs something called the V-SIDO (Bushido) OS and includes touchscreen support inside the cockpit as well as 3G wireless connectivity so you can control it via phone. No Comments
TechCrunch PSA: Olwimpics Blocker Blocks The Olympics

If you're like me, you never real got into spectator sports. Maybe it was the jock-induced swirlies or maybe it was the pointlessness of ball-based games, but I couldn't give two shot puts about the Olympics. Thankfully, there's the Olwinpics Blocker from FFFFF.at.No Comments
Review: Cerevellum Hindsight 35 Rearview Biking Computer
Posted On 28 Jul 2012 By John Biggs. Under: Uncategorized.
We're very lucky that the creator of the Cerevellum is even alive. Evan Solida was a competitive cyclist until a major accident in 2007 left him unable to ride. After years of plastic surgery and physical therapy, he was able to get back onto his bike and now builds unique cycle designs, does contract work, and just released his first product, the Hindsight 35.
This unique device is essentially a rearview monitor and race computer for cyclists. It connects to various sensors using ANT+ wireless technology and a small lens and light combo on the back of the bike gives you a full view of what's coming up behind you in brilliant color. The device also records the scene in five minute bursts and stops recording when you (or your bike) are suddenly interrupted by a collision. In short, it's a way for cyclists to find out what's behind them and, if they run into a spot of bad luck, see who's responsible. No Comments

Boom! Snicker, Snicker: Spy vs. Spy Comes To The iPhone
Posted On 26 Jul 2012 By John Biggs. Under: Uncategorized.
If you were a gamer from a simpler era, you'll remember Spy Vs. Spy with nostalgia. The game, based on the Mad Magazine comic, featured two spies trying to collect items in an embassy while booby trapping desks, doors, and safes for the other player to trip over.
The mechanics are simple. As the black or white spy, you move through the rooms looking for a secret briefcase, a key, a passport, and some traveling money. If you chance upon your opponent you can club him (or her) into submission and you can trap almost every door, drawer, and safe. The new game includes online and local multiplayer as well as new embassies for you to skulk through. You can disarm traps using various tools at your disposal. No Comments
SocialTables Is An Event Planning App For The True Social Butterfly
Posted On 25 Jul 2012 By John Biggs. Under: Uncategorized.
If you've ever had to think about whether Uncle Phil (the one with the ear hair) should be sitting next to Aunt Clara (the one with the walker) or with the other guys at Frank's table ("Drunk" Frank), SocialTables has you covered. The site, recently relaunched with an entirely new UI and design, allows party planners to create mockups of their space, plop guests at different tables, and then organize the whole party via an iPad in real time. Never again will you have to cut out little circles and put little scraps of paper on the dining room table with each guest's name: this thing can do it for you.
The platform is built in HTML5, which makes it easy to use in the browser, and the system pulls social data from each guest in the guest list, allowing party planners to seat like-minded people together or, barring that, create a little frisson by sticking cat lovers with stoat fans. It's completely collaborative and non-linear so multiple users can work on the same floorplan. No Comments
